Australia is in the midst of significant transformation with the workforce of the future requiring new skills and new ways of working to make the most of new technologies and to meet challenges. The changes in technology, demographics, social, and regulatory environment have accelerated the challenges of staffing the right workforce, with the right skills, at a competitive cost.
Extreme events such as COVID-19 have increased the speed and complexity of these challenges. But does the speed of changes forced upon us this year reset the way we should think about how we tackle these challenges?
Drawing on insights from across industries and leading thought leadership, PwC will suggest how these challenges may impact the workforce of Victoria’s Water Corporations and how they may be tackled.
IWA Conference: 12 – 13 March 2020
The Conference has been themed “Complex conversations in 280 characters” and will focus on simple and effective ways to engage with our customers, increase water literacy and provide thought leadership.
The Conference program has a mix of thought-providing speakers as well as a workshop session focussed on solution building. Being that it is predicted to be a hot and dry summer, the Conference will also explore the effectiveness of behaviour change campaigns and their impact.
IWA Conference: 14-15 November 2019
The final conference for 2019 sponsored by Davidson Executive & Boards, Trility and our Strategic partner PwC Australia was held on 14-15 November in Melbourne.
The theme for the conference “Solutions for a Changing Climate“ featured presentations from PwC’s Chief Data Scientist Matt Kuperholz, policy update from the DELWP Deputy Secretary Helen Vaughan and a number of other Victorian water industry professionals.

IWA Conference – July 2019
The mid-year IWA Conference sponsored by GHD was held in early July 2019 at Crown Conferencing Southbank. The theme for the conference was “Our Water Future in a Drying Climate” and featured presentations that explored balancing social, environmental, economic and health needs with the increasing demand for water for a multitude of purposes (recreational and otherwise).

IWA Conference – March 2019
Out first conference for 2019 was another great success with over 250 industry specialists participating in our Special Interest Groups collaborating, sharing ideas and solving critical issues to serve our customers better.
An engaging and heartfelt presentation from Emma Murray (Richmond FC secret weapon) reinforced the power of bringing your ‘A’ game while Victor Perton (author of The Case for Optimism, founder of The Australian Leadership Project and Yarra Valley Water Director) challenged our thinking about what makes an optimistic leader.

IWA Conference – November 2018
The IWA November 2018 Conference sponsored by Trility and Davidson Executive & Boards was held on 22 and 23 November 2018 at Crown Conferencing Southbank, Melbourne.
The timely theme for the conference was “ Trust: a critical success factor for culture, customers and community” and featured presentations that highlight the key factors for trust-building in society through ethical and engaged leadership.
Conference Keynote speaker Rocky Scopelliti explored Interconnected Trust. For the Conference Dinner, we were delighted to hear from Saroo Brierley as our guest speaker who shared his life story which was recently recounted through the Academy Award winning movie Lion.
IWA Conference – November 2018
Congratulations to Dean Phillips, Water Treatment Coordinator at Western Water who was announced as the 2019 Laurie Gleeson Development Award winner at our November 2018 Conference Dinner. We look forward to hearing of Dean’s learning’s from his upcoming study tour to America and Canada exploring what technologies and processes these countries use to meet their stringent Drinking Water Guidelines.

2018 Biggest Ever ‘Laurie Gleeson’ Dinner
2018 marked the 3rd event of this kind where in excess of $150,000 has now been raised for prostate cancer research and awareness campaigns.
Over 300 guests enjoyed a fabulous evening of networking and education of mens health and the ground breaking medical treatment that is restoring post cancer sufferers quality of life.
This years event was held at the prestigious Members Dining Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday 5 July 2018 on the night before the IWA’s July conference and in place of the traditional June/July conference dinner.

IWA Conference – November 2017
The exciting program for the November 2017 IWA Conference at Crown, Melbourne themed “Workforce of the Future – Becoming more extraordinary” was recently held for our delegates.
This conference explored skills of the future, leadership, team building, personal wellbeing, etc with a keynote address from Steve Griffith – CEO of Griffith Consulting who spoke on the Future of Leadership – the five focus strategies for energising and creating a high-performance culture of results and accountability.

IWA/AWA Regional Conference – February 2017
Featuring a keynote presentation from the Minister for Water, Lisa Neville MP, our first conference for 2017 titled ‘Renewing energy in the water industry‘ was a sell out event with over 250 people attending the Special Interest Group meetings and a further 280 delegates attending the Conference and Dinner over this 2 day event.

IWA Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner – November 2016
The final IWA Conference for 2016 was held on 17 and 18 November at our new bigger and better location at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). Titled ‘Looking forward, looking back – 50 years in the making’ attendees received engaging and insightful presentations from our keynote speaker Bernard Salt as well as several other Industry and Government representatives.
