DELEGATE TOUR: Complimentary to the conference program, Central Highlands Water is pleased to be hosting Integrated Water Cycle Management Tours –’A case study: Lake Wendouree’ on Thursday 1st March 2018. Lake Wendouree was the site of the 1956 Olympic Games rowing events and 2014 World Rowing Masters Regatta and today is one of Ballarat’s premier recreational-tourist attractions offering rowing, fishing and sailing activities. It is surrounded by a 6.1 km walking – running track and high quality nationally recognised Botanical gardens.

During the Millennium Drought of 2000-2010, the Lake (some 220ha in size and at capacity holds 3,300ML of water) was effectively dry during the summer months. Prior to the drought, Central Highlands Water would provide up to 700ML p.a. of water to keep the Lake topped up. During 2006-08 severe Stage 4 water restrictions banned all external water use through the community.

The site tour will show how the integration of stormwater (250ML p.a), Class A recycled water (600ML p.a.), rainfall and groundwater has ensured that the lake levels through all climatic conditions can be maintained. This ensures the Lake can be relied upon for major tourism events which provide a substantial economic boost to the community.

The tour will run over 2 sessions (morning and afternoon departures) with pickups from both The Mercure and Central Highlands Water.  ATTENDANCE ONLY BY ONLINE REGISTRATION BELOW.
