Laurie Gleeson Development Award

About the award:
The Institute of Water Administration annually offers a $5000 grant to a water industry professional to undertake a professional development project. The award grant can be used for travel costs, living expenses and other costs associated with the project or activity. It cannot be used to support study for formal qualifications.

How can I apply?
In following the theme of encouraging industry creativity and innovation applications for this prestigious award will entail a 2 part submission process being:

1) Completion of the application cover sheet (click here to access the application form)
2) Submission of a short video (5min max.) presenting your proposed project ensuring that it includes the following core requirements:

  • Nature of proposal and the expected outcomes
  • How will the expected outcomes benefit the individual and how are they strategically important to the Water Industry and the Institute?
  • What is the expected total cost? (projects over $5,000 will require employer or other contribution above this cap)

Applications must be sent to via use of a DropBox, HighTail, YouTube application.

Applications close Friday 25th October 2019 with the winner to be announced at the IWA Conference Dinner on 14th November 2019 in Melbourne where the winners’ video will be screened.

So who was Laurie Gleeson?

Laurie Gleeson was Managing Director of Goulburn Valley Water for 28 years from 1980 to 2008. A keen advocate for reform, efficiency and high standards of customer service, Laurie played an active role in enhancing the performance of the water sector.

Laurie was a strong supporter of the IWA and the role it plays in contributing to professional development and collaboration in the Victorian Water Industry. He was a Past President and IWA Board Member of the Institute. In honour of Laurie Gleeson the IWA offers a $5000 grant each year for the winner to undertake a project of their choice.

Congratulations to Dean Phillips, Water Treatment Coordinator at Western Water who was announced as the 2019 Laurie Gleeson Development Award winner at our November 2018 Conference Dinner. We look forward to hearing of Dean’s learning’s from his upcoming study tour to America and Canada exploring what technologies and processes these countries use to meet their stringent Drinking Water Guidelines.
